The Menninger Clinic is a nonprofit psychiatric hospital renowned for its intensive treatment of severe and complex mental illness. Founded in 1925 in Topeka, Kansas, by Dr. Charles Menninger and sons, it relocated in 2003 to Houston, Texas, where it currently operates inpatient and outpatient programs for adults and adolescents. Credited with being the first group psychiatry practice, the Menninger Clinic is a national leader in psychiatric treatment, research and education.
The Menninger Clinic’s Hope Program for Adults “helps adults with complex psychiatric issues that have hindered their capacity to meet important vocational, personal and interpersonal goals.” The Hope Program is a hospital-based assessment and treatment that offers an intensive, rehabilitative, person-centered approach to complex problems of mental health, including multiple diagnoses and problems that have been unresponsive to other programs.

“We encourage families to be involved during the treatment process. Educating the family and the patient about disorders, treatments and relapse prevention is one of our top priorities. We urge family members to participate in a Family Orientation session soon after their loved one admits so that they can learn about the evidence-based practices we use and what to expect from the treatment process. We also encourage participation in Family Education Day, which is held nearly every two months.”
